How To Clean Bamboo Flooring

Clean up spills

If you find any spills, dry them immediately with a sponge or dry microfiber cloth. Try to wet the soft cloth or sponge with as little water as possible, as this is the best way to clean your bamboo floor naturally. Apply it to the spill area to wipe away any remaining dirt, then dry the spill area with a soft towel.

Second, sweep or vacuum

Use a soft-bristled broom, dust mop or vacuum with a felt tip (not a beater bar or hard tip) to sweep up dirt and any particles, and dispose of debris in the trash.

Third, clean up stains or dry spills

After sweeping or vacuuming, keep an eye out for any areas with stains or dry spills. Start by lightly dampening a microfiber cloth with water and wiping the area with it to see if it’s enough to remove it. If not, dampen the cloth with an approved hardwood cleaning solution and gently wipe the area to remove the stain or dry material. Finally, dip a clean cloth in a little water and wipe the area to remove any cleaning solution and dry the area with a soft towel.

Fourth, continue wet mopping

Wet mop with a hardwood grade cleaner, diluted according to product directions. Wet a mop suitable for hardwoods with the solution and wring it out until it is barely wet. Gently mop the floor in a circular motion. If there are any wet spots, dry the floor with a clean, soft towel.

Do some heavy duty cleaning

Prepare an approved hardwood cleaning solution according to the item’s instructions. Dip a sponge or clean rag into the solution and wring it out so that the material is slightly damp. Apply the cleaner evenly to all parts of the floor without letting it pool or puddle. Finish by drying the floor with a dry towel to complete the cleaning.

Tip.

Do not use a vacuum cleaner with an agitator wand to clean your bamboo floor.

Never submerge the floor in water and use only a damp, almost dry mop.

Never use abrasive stain removers or steel wool on bamboo floors.

Follow any instructions provided by the manufacturer when caring for your bamboo floor. It is also important to familiarize yourself with the warranty that comes with your flooring so that you do not take actions that could void it.

Ask people to remove their shoes when entering your home; this will avoid tracking in dirt and prevent damage from spiked heels.

Use doormats inside and outside entrances to prevent dirt from entering your home.

Use small rugs in high-traffic areas and around sinks.

DIY Vinegar Cleaning Solution

For cleaning stains or dry dirt, you may not even need commercial products. An effective all-natural bamboo floor cleaner may already be in your home. If you mix 1/4 cup of white vinegar into a quart of water, you will have a solution that can safely clean the surface of your bamboo floor. Use this cleaner in the same way you would use a commercial hardwood cleaner, with a damp sponge or wrung out rag before use. Make sure to dilute the vinegar properly as full strength vinegar may damage the floor. Save this solution for when you need to remove stains or for deep cleaning.

Removing Wear Marks from Bamboo Flooring

Some of the toughest stains to clean on any floor, including bamboo, are the wear marks that appear when the rubber heel of a shoe is dragged across the surface.

Apply a few drops of an approved hardwood floor cleaning product to a microfiber cloth and gently wipe the bamboo board where the wear marks are located with a damp cleaning cloth. Take your time and be patient with this method and eventually, the wear marks will be erased. Avoid the urge to use steel wool or abrasive pads on bamboo as it can easily scratch the surface.
